Darren Shaw is the Executive Advisor of PETRA Films, an entity under the PETRA Media umbrella.
Darren has worked in a wide range of businesses and has over 25 years of strategic investment and management experience across the entertainment, real estate and asset management sectors.
He co-founded TVB Superchannel Europe in 1992, Europe's first Chinese-language satellite television channel which was later sold to Hong Kong-listed Television Broadcasts Ltd in 2003.
In 1994 he established an Asian real estate fund management and property services group in partnership with the Duke of Westminster’s Grosvenor Estate. The property services business was successfully expanded across Asia in a joint venture with Cushman & Wakefield Inc. and later acquired by IFIL Investments S.p.A. in 2006.
Between 2004 and 2006, Darren served as Executive Chairman of Pacific Media plc, a UK-listed online and television home shopping enterprise with operations in Greater China.
Darren was a director of Hong Kong’s Shaw Brothers Ltd, a family-owned media holding company founded by the late Sir Run Run Shaw. The family interest was sold in 2011 and Darren remained on the board until 2015.
He has served as a director of Boston & Alexander, a Luxembourg-listed hedge fund, and has been an advisor to both the TMT investment banking division of Bank of China and to Red Bee Media (formally the broadcasting arm of the UK’s BBC). He is currently a member of Unilever plc.'s global Digital Advisory Board as well as the Hong Kong advisory board of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
Darren studied at Westminster School and graduated from University College London in 1987 with a BA (Hons) in economics. He is married with two children and lives in Hong Kong.
