Dato’ Sri Shahril Mokhtar is the Chairman of PETRA Transit Systems. In his capacity as Chairman, he brings with him years of expertise and experience in the rail business to PETRA Transit Systems.
Dato’ Sri Shahril started his career in the banking industry and then, he moved on to serve in a few industries before he joined RapidKL in 2006 as their General Manager of Corporate Planning from October 2009 to October 2010. He was then seconded as an Advisor to the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department to assist the Government in setting up the Land Public Transport Commission where he was subsequently appointed the Chief Operating Officer of the Commission tasked with spearheading long-term reforms in land-based passenger and goods transportation.
Subsequently, he was appointed as the Group Managing Director of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (‘Prasarana’) from Oct 2010 to December 2014 where he led the Prasarana Group’s Business Turnaround Plan and Business Transformation Plan. Shahril was then appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (‘MRT Corp’) in January 2015 until December 2018. As the CEO of MRT Corp, he was responsible for overseeing and managing the multibillion ringgit MRT Line 1 (Sg. Buloh-Kajang Line) and MRT Line 2 (Sg. Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line) development. Dato’ Sri Shahril then held the post of Managing Director for DWL Resources Berhad (now known as KTG Berhad), a company listed on the KLSE Main Board, from 2019 to 2020 where he crafted the company’s strategic transformation plan to become an infrastructure construction player.
Besides his capacity as Chairman of PETRA Transit Systems, he currently also serves as an Advisor to the Spain-based technological company, Indra Group, Chairman of UiTM Specialist Centre (a private medical wing of UiTM) and the Managing Director of Sungai Klang Expressway Sdn Bhd which intends to develop the fully elevated urban highway connecting Klang to Kuala Lumpur. He also sits on the board of various private and public listed companies.
Shahril holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial and Organisational Psychology with a minor in Political Science from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, Missouri, USA, after which he pursued his postgraduate studies and obtained his Master of Management Degree with distinction from University of Malaya, Malaysia in 2006 and he also attended the Advanced Management Program at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, USA in 2016.
Shahril is a familiar face in the local football scene. Under his personal capacity, he is currently serving the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) as its EXCO Member and Chairman of the Marketing and Sponsorship Committee. He is also the Deputy President and Treasurer of the Football Association of Selangor (FAS).
